After returning to Romania in 2014, he established, developed, and led the cardiovascular surgery department at the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital.
He developed the ascending aorta replacement program with preservation or repair of the aortic valve for patients with aortic root and ascending aorta aneurysms, holding the most extensive experience in Romania in this field. At the German Heart Centre Munich, an international training hub for minimally invasive cardiovascular surgery, Dr. Badiu also trained in minimally invasive and endoscopic cardiac surgery, gaining over 15 years of experience with these techniques.
Education
Since 2020, he has been an Associate Professor at Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, and since 2015, Head of the Cardiovascular Surgery Department at the Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic of the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital.
Dr. Badiu studied medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München and Technische Universität München, and completed his doctorate in medical sciences at Technische Universität München with the distinction “Magna cum Laude”; he is a graduate of the habilitation program at the same university and first author of numerous specialty studies published in the most prestigious international journals of cardiovascular surgery.

Primary Cardiovascular Surgeon, Associate Professor Dr. Cătălin C. Badiu, is specialized in state-of-the-art cardiac surgery. He trained for the first 12 years of his career under the guidance of Professor Rüdiger Lange at the German Heart Centre Munich (DHM), Germany. At this prestigious international surgical center, Dr. Badiu initially worked as a resident/specialist and later as the head of the cardiovascular surgery department.
